Worcester City Councilor Kate Toomey has shown time and time again that she will turn a blind eye to the valid grievances her constituents have against the Worcester Police Department (WPD). She has continued to go out of her way to yield uncritical deference to the WPD. She has consistently refused to acknowledge visual evidence of wrongdoing by the WPD and it's officers. She has made it clear that she has no interest in her fiduciary duty to the residents and tax payers of Worcester who have demanded change and accountability. In her role as Chair of Public Safety, she has refused to hold meetings to allow the public to further express their frustrations with WPD and to demand change in an appropriate forum. Furthermore, her familial relationships to police officers and Police Union leaders present a clear conflict of interest. We the undersigned, therefore, request that Mayor Joe Petty remove Councilor Toomey as Chair of Public Safety, and from the standing committee altogether.
