Please sign this petition addressed to our Freeport city officials. It will be delivered to the City Council meeting this Monday evening on April 6th, 2020.

There are currently over 1,000 water connections (addresses) in Freeport without water service. We do not know how many of those are occupied but during the pandemic, we are all at risk when anyone in our community does not have the ability to wash their hands and practice proper hygiene. We understand that since the pandemic was declared no new disconnections are occurring but that does not address any homes that had their water turned off prior to the Pandemic. Not addressing this issue could lead to tragic and deadly consequences for our community.

The following is what we the signers of this petition are requesting:

1) We are urging our city officials to develop a process to get the water turned on in these homes, as soon as possible and to have a plan to notify occupants of the steps required including those that may not have access to a computer.

2) We are also requesting that there be no financial barrier to get the water turned back on. It cannot be contingent on paying past due bills or hook up fees.

The extraordinary times we are currently facing require extraordinary solutions and leadership. We hope this gets the immediate attention of our elected officials for the safety of everyone.
