Re-Open Memphis' Beloved Tobey Skatepark!
Re-Open Memphis' Beloved Tobey Skatepark!

The City of Memphis is carefully re-opening enclosed spaces like restaurants, bars & retail stores. Also, other local open green spaces, golf courses, the adjacent baseball field, and city parks are open. Raleigh skatepark (a Memphis skatepark) is open. ONE park remains closed. Tobey Skatepark. Tobey skatepark has been locked up and patrolled by a security guard since our city first entered Phases 1 & 2 of COVID prevention-related closures.
Recently, the Riverfront Parks offered skate rental & public engagement around skating - but our local FREE skatepark remains closed.
Tobey Skatepark is – and provides:
• An open outdoor space.
• Significant social distancing.
• Less dangerous than eating in an enclosed space.
• Less dangerous than shopping in a grocery store.
• Much-needed exercise.
• Safe outdoor socialization.
Tobey is my haven (as it is for many) for exercise, to see friends, and lets me work out far away from the recycled air of the local gym. Our skate community consists of people who love the City of Memphis and would do nothing to harm it or each other.
We need our skatepark treated with the same consideration, respect, and thoughtfulness as the local golf courses, and city parks.
Sign this petition and contact Mayor Jim Strickland to voice your support of opening our ONE and only outdoor skatepark in the City of Memphis.
Thanks guys!
