In 1989 Delaware Ave was changed to Christopher Columbus Blvd (https://www.phillyhistory.org/historicstreets/default.aspx this was just over 30 years ago. It's quite shocking that not long ago our city chose to make such a racist change.
Christopher Columbus was a murderer, rapist, helped to kidnap and enslave thousands of people, and has commited many more heinous acts.
This indigenous people's day, I think it is a good idea to petition to change this street name to something more meaningful and I believe we should not have a street named after someone who did so much harm to the native people who's land we stole.
Since Philadelphia resides on the Lenni-Lenape territory I believe a good name for the street is Lenape Blvd.
This way we can recognize the tribe of the Lenape and the people who were here before us.

Please sign the petition to help advocate for this change!

While Lenape might not be a popular name it's important to bring this issue up to our mayor and council and if Lenape is not an option, we can at least fight to change it back to Delaware Ave.
