Seattle City Council: Remove the illegal encampment on 35th Ave NE

This petition made change with 90 supporters!

Approximately 3 weeks ago the tenants at 14020 35th Ave NE were formally evicted by the King County Sheriffs Department. However, once evicted, the tenants chose to set up an encampment just outside the property boundary and are now residing in the space just beyond the property’s fence, adjacent to the street. The new owner of the property has been more than lenient and accommodating with allocating more time (deadlines that have come and gone) to allow them to gather their belongings and leave. The new owner has offered various types of assistance and yet the now homeless tenants refuse to leave.

Prior to the eviction, a daily and nightly parade of homeless persons would traffic in and out of the home, domestic violence of varying degrees has repeatedly interrupted the neighborhood tranquility, drug-addicted tenants from this house have wandered onto other properties in the middle of the night, and defecation at neighboring homes has been witnessed by surrounding neighbors. The families in this community have had enough!

Multiple calls to the police over the years have proved ineffective as their response time has increased due to insufficient police staffing and a department spread so thin it has become incapable of responding to crime while it’s still happening.

The residents of Cedar Park/Lake City have tolerated this for far too long. It’s time for the city of Seattle to close down this encampment and restore peace, security, and serenity to this neighborhood.
