Frank Lindsay started this petition to mayor@hamiltonnj.com and

It is the ambition of our Hamilton Mayor (Jeff Martin) and his administration to turn Hamilton Township into a “Commercial Hub”.  Many warehouses have already been constructed and it continues.  One warehouse, already approved but not started yet, presents serious public safety issues for our children at Crockett Middle School.

YOU MAY BE SHOCKED……  that in January of 2021 the township approved a 245,000 square foot warehouse located on Kuser Road adjacent to the Dunkin Donuts near the Kuser / Route 130 interchange.

So what is the issue?...   The facility will be an enormous, 24 hour operation and only has a Truck entrance and exit on Kuser Road.  The truck exit is not the issue.  The issue is the ONLY truck entrance on Kuser Road.  This puts incoming Tractor Trailer traffic from Klockner Road (at the Wawa) turning right onto Kuser Road (at the busy Kuser / Klockner intersection) and directly past Crockett School to enter the facility.  A parade of tractor trailer trucks will be lumbering down Kuser Road, 24 hours a day right past Crockett school.

Kuser Road is already extremely busy and the Kuser/ Klockner intersection is already a congested mess without the addition of tractor trailer trucks 24 hours a day.  The mornings and afternoons have dozens of school busses and parents dropping off or picking up their children (see photos).  The nights and weekends have cars parked along the curbs with dense family activities for soccer and football.  People are crossing the roads everywhere along this strip during the week and on weekends.

This is setting up a very serious safety concern for our children.  Also, there was no consideration for the noise, diesel fumes and road decay of tractor trailer trucks 24 hours a day with people and homes right along that road and in very near proximity.

Our town administration should not have approved this without restrictions for public safety.  I propose the following options to assure the safety of our community and children.

A.  Modify the site plan using the property (still available) on route 130 to be the only truck entrance and exit. This is the optimal solution which would result in no additional truck traffic on Kuser Road from today's levels.

B.  Design the truck entrance on Kuser Road "curved towards route 130" so a tractor trailer cannot manage the turn from Kuser Road to enter the facility.  This would force trucks to use interchanges on route 130 and keep them on 130 to enter the facility.  This is another way to assure no additional truck traffic onto Kuser Road

C.  Classify and signage of Kuser Road as a “No Trucks over 5 tons” road.  This would then force trucks coming from NJ turnpike, I 195, route 130 North to use only route 130 interchanges for entry

D.  A less optimal solution is restricting the hours of truck traffic into the facility.  First, the Crockett School is very busy mornings and afternoons, In addition, the Crockett field is used for sports on nights and weekends.  It is very crowded at those times as well. Last, truck drivers do not obey rules and I doubt any facility will reject a truck delivery if it should not have entered at a particular time.

This is directly from the Hamilton Code Section 550-120 Performance Standards for all uses

Section B - Design and Layout, clearly states that the design and layout of buildings and parking areas shall be reviewed so as to provide an aesthetically pleasing design and efficient arrangement.  Particular attention shall be given to safety and fire protection, impact on surrounding development and contiguous and adjacent buildings and lands.
