Jessica Bellamy started this petition to Mayor Greg Fischer and

Louisville is building “affordable housing” for households making 50k and above. This is not where the need is! There are several Louisville residents across the city who make less than 35k a year. Louisvillians working in the service industry, and across the color line, are still making 15-25k per year as a result of our city’s minimum wage rate. Many of these Louisvillians work multiple jobs and have dependents that do not have the ability to financially contribute to the household.

We can’t stress enough that this issue is shared by White, Black, and Brown Louisvillians. City data shows that West Louisville median incomes are lower than 35k, but we don’t have income data on the vast number of restaurant, bar, and retail workers in our city that make under 35k. Is there bias in creating housing subsidies for people making under 35k because of racial prejudice?

Let Mayor Fischer know that: 1) there are residents and households that make under 35k who need affordable housing, and that 2) our city should prioritize housing subsidies to those with the greatest need.

Sign this petition to voice your concern. If you are a Louisvillians who makes under 35k a year and would like to be a part of this work please email nextstepslouisville@gmail.com.
