Over the past few years, the economic development within and around the Coca-Cola building at the intersection of Lone Oak Road, Broadway, and LaBelle Avenue has increased vehicular traffic and pedestrian foot traffic around this area.  Because there are two neighboring schools within walking distance of this area, much of this foot traffic consists of elementary and middle school students who also visit these local businesses.  

Unfortunately, the design of the intersection has not been updated to adequately support this increased traffic.  Many families in the surrounding areas have expressed concern about the safety of this intersection.  This has culminated with an accident involving a 12 year old child on September 28, 2021.

If the city administration considers safety of paramount concern, the time for the Mayor and the city commissioner to act is NOW.  They must begin to implement immediate short term improvements to help immediately reduce the risks before someone else is hurt or seriously injured.
