Mayor Gene Armstrong: Don't Cut Water to Immigrant Families in Allgood, Alabama
This petition had 326 supporters
An extreme new immigration law in Alabama bars residents from doing business transactions with undocumented immigrants, and, in turn, could cut off undocumented residents from receiving municipal water service. That means no drinking water, bath water, flushable toilets, or water to wash dishes and clothes for many immigrant families.
A water company in one town, Allgood, Alabama, has already told some residents, "To be compliant with new laws concerning immigration you must have an Alabama driver's license...or you may lose water service."
To make matters worse, the mayor of Allgood, Gene Armstrong, has brushed off the negative impact of the law, telling a reporter, "We managed in the past without illegal immigrants to pick the tomatoes here, and I haven't heard anyone say that if we sent them all home nobody would be left to do that work."
This law threatens the health and safety of all Alabama residents and denies immigrant families the right to a vital resource -- water.
Sign this petition and demand that Allgood Mayor Gene Armstrong ensure that all residents be provided equal access to water service.
