Jerome Steele started this petition to Mayor of Schenectady, NY Mayor Gary McCarthy and Schenectady City Council

We humbly ask that Mayor McCarthy and the Schenectady City Council ceremonially rename and dedicate the Central Park Basketball Court to Naylon Carrington.

Naylon Carrington was an inspiration to his friends, teammates and classmates. In the words of Schenectady High School Basketball Coach John Miller he was "a kid we are modeling our program around." Not only a dynamic athlete, Naylon was an outstanding student who excelled in the classroom.  HIs diligence, dedication and perseverance can serve as a model to the youth of Schenectady as they play ball on the same courts that Naylon developed his game and his commitment to others.

Naylon's mother, Sondra Banks, offered this moving remembrance of her son:

Naylon, will always be a loving son, brother, uncle, friend, teammate and a memorable student athlete here in Schenectady NY. Naylon had vision and did not waste his life, he was full of goals, aspirations and huge dreams. He aspired to be a veterinarian, an overseas basketball sensation and ultimately play in the NBA. He worked hard in spite of multiple obstacles, disappointments and challenges. He used his experiences and disappointments to strengthen his faith and build character to become the well-rounded young man/athlete we will all love and never forget. He was determined to leave a legacy of integrity, hard work, sacrifice and faith for other striving young people herein Schenectady, the 518 and beyond. Naylon did accept the invitation to attend the University in Guam but his journey ended before he had the opportunity to leave. At this time, the family is asking for the support of our community, In support of honoring Naylon Carrington with attaching his name to the basketball courts at Central Park in Schenectady. During his journey he used the courts as a way of bettering his game and gaining mental and physical clarity. He would frequent with friends and fellow teammates to practice and play pick-up games, all in hopes to gain more experience and strengthen his craft.  While doing this,  extending positive energy and encouragement to those asking or needing help.

Naylon could be seen and heard as early as 6am working out, as well as late after the lights were out in the park by neighbors who knew him. The neighbors would look down on him from their backyards that over looked the courts. We as the family knew first hand as well as the community witnessing the passion he possessed for the courts.  Whether it was a FB post or a personal text, you knew what it was hitting for, CP. Help us in keeping his legacy going strong, giving generation to come a positive #Blueprint the #NayWay.
