For the last several years Los Angeles residents have experienced an epidemic of potholes and street deterioration in our communities. This problem has spread gradually across several sister cities. From Los Angeles, Inglewood, to Compton. Potholes and negligence in safety are highly responsible for many accidents. Vehicles have been damaged, residents have sent hundreds of thousands complaints to council and highway officials. The roads continue to be in unsafe conditions. This is a huge safety issue it causes accidents and unsafe grounds for school children as cars swerve to avoid damage to their vehicles. Potholes are causing damage to our cars while lawmakers do nothing. In September 2017, the City of Los Angeles voted unanimously had to award $6.5 million to Peter Godefroy, a plaintiff who was severely injured when his bicycle hit a pothole. In 10 years, Los Angeles county the city has paid over a 1 million dollars in claims for vehicle damage. The city owes drivers for damage to vehicles due to poor roads, but officials often reject reimbursement claims. To many local residents, it seems like city council will avoid reimbursement and fixing the potholes. It's time for us to address the pothole emergency head on, because it not only impacts our roads but the safety of our residents as well.
