We value being part of a community that is inclusive, caring, and prioritizes equity. We are concerned about our neighbors in the Lowry Grove mobile home park and about the loss of affordable housing in the city as a whole. To create a community aligned with our values, we ask that the Saint Anthony City Council:
Delay Continental Properties' Plans for Lowry Grove: Exercise due diligence before approving any zoning changes or comp plan amendments at the Lowry Grove site in consideration of the fact that Lowry Grove residents' lawsuit is ongoing and significant concerns have been raised about density, parking, and the environmental effects of the proposed development.
Ensure Affordable Options: Require that any new development at Lowry Grove fully replaces the 98 units of affordable housing lost, giving current residents first priority AND includes affordable options in the full range of unit types and sizes for 20% of the remaining units.
Be Proactive: Create a comprehensive plan that prioritizes equity, pass an inclusionary zoning policy requiring affordable housing for new developments, help non-profit developers to identify sites for future developments, work to preserve naturally occurring affordable options at other sites in St. Anthony, and partner with residents who are most affected by these policies.
St. Anthony Villagers for Community Action (SAVCA) is a volunteer-based group of St. Anthony residents and local community members focused on matters of social justice.
