Save The Eastern Columbia Clock Tower!
This petition had 1,152 supporters
Please help save the designated Historical-Cultural landmark Eastern Columbia Building and clock tower from being obscured from the west side by a planned new development.
The Eastern Columbia Building is widely considered the greatest surviving example of Art Deco architecture in Los Angeles. The edifice of the building, built in 1930, is easily spotted from many parts of the city by its brightly lit four-sided clock tower emblazoned with the word "EASTERN" in white neon on each face of the clock. The Historic Core would not be the HISTORIC CORE without the Eastern Columbia Building clock.
A Dallas real estate developer plans to build a 30-floor apartment building immediately across the west side of the 13-story Eastern, which is located in the heart of the Historic Core in Downtown Los Angeles. Please help protect our city’s heritage by filing an objection with Councilman Jose Huizar and the Department of City Planning. The proposed project will OBSCURE THE ENTIRETY OF THE WEST EASTERN COLUMBIA BUILDING CLOCK.
We are demanding an Environmental Impact Report with shade and shadow analysis, we demand a Secretary of the Interiors Standards analysis as the proposed apartment building is not aesthetically congruent with its historic neighbors, and we demand "viewshed" and "zone of respect" protection of OUR Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monuments.
I OPPOSE OBSCURING OUR LANDMARKS!
