Why this petition matters

Started by Blythe Scott

Amid much civil unrest and violent escalation by Los Angeles Police during peaceful protests, it has become clear that the LAPD has too much power—particularly too much spending power.

Mayor Eric Garcetti’s budget for the LAPD accounts for over half of the city’s budget, even after very minor changes in response to public outcry.

The People’s Budget of LA listened to the community and has come up with actionable alternatives that give resources back to the people.

With the Black Lives Matter movement at the forefront, The People’s Budget of LA redistributes funds where they are most needed: back into the community. It prioritizes better housing, mental health services, and education.

With a focus on meeting basic human needs, The People’s Budget of LA seeks to create a healthier, safer Los Angeles without the interference of cops in situations they are ill-equipped to handle.

Please sign this petition to pressure Mayor Garcetti and LA City Council to defund the LAPD and enact the People’s Budget.
