Encourage RDC to commit to a Zero Waste 2040 Plan for the Ruapehu
0 have signed. Let’s get to 1,000!
Ruapehu District Council is calling for submissions on their Waste Management and Minimisation Plan 2018-2028 with submissions open until May 29. Currently their over-arching vision for this is to Minimise Waste to Landfill. In this day and age of undeniable global responsibility I believe simply minimising waste is not good enough and hope there are others who are willing to e tū and support a new vision...Zero Waste in the Ruapehu by 2040
If Auckland Council/s are currently working towards Zero Waste by 2040 for their 1.38 million whānau why can't RDC have the same vision for us when we only have 12,700 people living here?
Zero Waste aspirations are a process, a new way of thinking but most of all a vision for a new planning approach which all Councils need to adopt. We want RDC to change their WMMP vision to one of:
Zero Waste in the Ruapehu by 2040
and ask that Council develop an approach to creating a plan that's collaborative, culturally inclusive, technically feasible and which includes effective immediate/medium/long term key performance indicators. With a simple change of vision RDC can take a lead in helping residents, organisations, businesses and our thousands of visitors, work together towards ending the global mentality of take, make, and dispose
Zero Waste is a goal that is ethical, economical, efficient and visionary. If RDC work towards becoming a Zero Waste region, we can encourage all who travel here to enjoy our pristine natural environment to do the same
(who knows in the long run this may even reduce the cost of our rubbish rates lol)
The Ruapehu is not just a pretty place to visit, it's where we live and by signing this petition you are asking our Council to take responsibility, to stand up and work alongside us by doing everything they can to help us protect our stunning environment not only for ourselves but our tamariki, the grand-babies and all who follow when we are long gone
Please e tū and support the dream of a #RuapehuZeroWaste2040 by demanding a new vision for our Waste Management and Minimisation Plan 2018-2028 by Ruapehu District Council Councillors and staff
