Phil Lenoir started this petition to Mayor Darrin Caniff and

Councillor Steve Pinnsoneault (Ward 3) is actively engaged in a campaign to prevent the passing of a tree cutting bylaw. In doing so he has clearly indicated that he  is unable to represent his constituents impartially, placing his own narrow interests above those who elected him.

Many municipalities have laws that prevent the wanton destruction of forest and significant trees yet farmers are able to thrive in these jurisdictions. Chatham-Kent has one of the lowest percentages of tree cover in the province. Trees support healthy watersheds, sustainable farming and biodiversity. The current regime of clear cutting is further eroding the quality of our environment in the interest of short term greed with no regard to the future of farming or the planet. Responsible farmers support the passing of this bylaw.

We, the undersigned, request that Councillor Steve Pinsonneault recuse himself from voting on this bylaw on the grounds of conflict of interest. Failing that we request that Mayor Darrin Canniff sanction him on the same aforesaid grounds.
