Please Leash Your Dog

On Tuesday May 22nd 2018 at around 4:30 pm while walking up Hillcrest Drive I was bitten by an errant dog in an unprovoked attack. I reported the issue to bylaw. They are investigating the incident.

This event is part of a bigger problem: dogs often wander free and are walked off leash in Whitehorse.

We the undersigned propose that the City of Whitehorse take practical action to enforce Animal Control Bylaw 55 by placing officers on highly used trails and paths of Whitehorse between the high use hours of 5:30 - 8:30 pm to inform and fine offenders of this bylaw. These trails include but are not limited to:
Airport Perimeter Trail
Black Street Stairs
Chadburn Lake and Magnusson Trails
Hamilton Boulevard Paved Trail
Millennium Trail
Riverfront Trail
Trans Canada Trail
Two Mile Hill
Whistle Bend Perimeter Trail

Animal Control Bylaw 55 reads:
No owner of an animal shall permit such animal to be upon any public property within the municipal boundaries of the City unless such animal is on a leash that is held at all times by a person exercising control over the animal.

The penalty for violating this bylaw is $75.00
