The thousands of family members of Brantford kids in organized sports look to City Hall to do the right thing!
The cost in every area for minor sports is being piled on the backs of parents forcing them to reconsider future registration.
The general physical conditioning of kids is not as emphasized at schools as in the past leading to increased obesity, depression and a financial burden on the local health care system.
1 out of 3 kids are in socioeconomically disadvantaged families and can never afford minor sports.
It is proven that kids engaged in organized sports are diverted from paths leading to increased municipal expense in policing and drug enforcement.
Building pretty arenas does not, in isolation, embolden a child's self-esteem, the dream of elite careers, or the lessons of life coming from team experiences.
Kids are not a municipal revenue stream; they are our community's future leaders.
If Brantford really accepts their often quoted fundamental strategic premise, "High Quality of Life and Caring for Citizens", then they should invest in increased grants, reduced costs for facilities, recognition/reimbursement of the economic impact of sports organized tournaments for the business community and collaboration with the stakeholders for better long-term planning to advantage the kids.
