Many parents have been asking for a 5 day school week in Israel for decades but despite the barrage of requests it has not yet materialized for Israel’s primary schools. 

There have been many articles written about this topic focusing on how Israel needs to get in line with the rest of the world, both to save economically and to increase productivity. 

The Bank of Israel announced in 2019 that a 5 day week makes sound economic sense. 

Recently Sharren Heskel also advocated for a 5 day school week.

In a June 2020 survey circulated by Iriyat Raanana, the questions specifically on a 5 day week indicated that 70% of the Raanana parents that responded were in favor of a 5 day week. Many schools operate this way and it is up to the local municipality to decide. As a result our Iriya has promised to explore this initiative further. 

WHY DO WE WANT THIS?

This initiative is very important for Raanana, and for Israel, for many reasons. Here are a few:

1. Israel's children are the only children in the world that go to school 6 days a week.
2. Israel’s children go to school the most days of any OECD country and yet we are the least productive and perform the worst educationally in the OECD.
3. All adults get at least 2 days off a week - why and how do we expect our developing children’s minds and bodies to have little rest and constant pressure?
4. The world is talking about a 4 day week for adults to lessen the pressure and yet Israel still insists on a 6 day week for developing children who are arguably in the most need of time to rest and process their week.
5. A 2 day weekend would mean: Slightly longer days for children yet more productive learning and more productive teaching for teachers. Time for the children to rejuvenate and process their learning during the weekend where they are not forced to rise early day in day out 
   Extended family time at weekends for parents, teachers and students. Two consecutive days off for both teachers and students.
   On a macro level, our 6 day week is costing the country billions (see bank of Israel article). By Friday teachers are exhausted and many children don’t go to school anyway because they too are exhausted. It is an unproductive day for everyone and it is unsound economically. 
6. A 6 day school week means parents are struggling to work and find childcare for their children. Shortening the week to 5 days helps to solve this issue as it enables a bank of additional days to be used throughout the year to close the gap between school holidays and work days.

HOW DID WE PROPOSE THIS AT A LOCAL LEVEL FOR RAANANA?

• Take Friday away (3.40 hours)
• Scatter these 3.40 hours throughout the rest of the week which would mean a longer school day by around 45 minutes to an hour each day (the children would also need longer breaks).
• Everything else would stay the same on a local level - no further changes (for the moment and until further national initiatives are implemented that bring Israel in line with other countries).
• This would mean that for an additional hour each day (approximately) teachers would have a day off in the week and a consecutive two day weekend.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN ON A FRIDAY INSTEAD OF SCHOOL?

The Friday itself becomes an optional “fun” day where parents can opt-in for their child to go on a half day nature tiul or do learning outside of the classroom setting which is equally as important. 

Those that don’t want / need this option can spend Friday morning as they wish. This alternative is a win-win for everyone and takes the pressure off parents, teachers and pupils.

From speaking to many schools, we know that there are perhaps hundreds of primary schools in Israel that have a 5-day school week. These are all regular schools which serve their own neighborhoods.

Although this initiative is currently being demanded by many parents in Raanana, there are many thousands of parents countrywide that believe it is now time for Israel to change its education system across the board from ganim to higher level education. 

The benefit of a 5 day school week has been understood and discussed for years.

It needs to happen now, for the good of our children, and for the good of our country.

רעננה מבקשת מעבר ל- 5 ימי  לימוד בשבוע לילדי בית הספר היסודי שלנו.

כבר עשרות שנים הורים רבים מבקשים שבוע לימודים בן 5 ימים בישראל, אך למרות שלל הבקשות הוא טרם התממש לבתי הספר היסודיים בישראל.

נכתבו מאמרים רבים בנושא זה המתמקדים כיצד ישראל צריכה להשתלב עם שאר העולם, הן כדי לחסוך כלכלית והן כדי להגדיל את הפריון. בנק ישראל הצהירה ​​ב- 2019 כי מעבר לשבוע בעל חמישה ימים הגיוני מבחינה כלכלית. לאחרונה גם שרן השכל דגלה ב- 5 ימי לימוד שבועי.

למה אנחנו רוצים את זה?

יש סיבות רבות למה זה חשוב למשפחות ברעננה ואף לכלל המדינה.

• ילדי ישראל הם הילדים היחידים בעולם שהולכים לבית הספר 6 ימים בשבוע.
  לפי סקר ה- OECD ילדי ישראל לומדים הכי הרבה ימים מכל מדינה ב- OECD ובכל זאת אנחנו הכי פחות פרודוקטיביים ומתפקדים הכי גרוע מבחינה חינוכית.
• מבוגרים מקבלים לפחות 2 ימי חופש בשבוע - מדוע וכיצד אנו מצפים שנפשם וגופם המתפתחים של ילדינו יהיו בעלי מנוחה מועטה ולחץ מתמיד?
• בעולם מדברים על שבוע בעל 4 ימים למבוגרים כדי להפחית את הלחץ ובכל זאת ישראל עדיין מתעקשת על שבוע של 6 ימים לילדים מתפתחים, שללא ספק זקוקים לזמן רב ביותר כדי לנוח ולעבד את השבוע שעבר עליהם.

המשמעות של סוף שבוע של יומיים:

• ימי לימוד מעט ארוכים יותר לילדים אך עם זאת למידה פרודוקטיבית יותר והוראה פרודוקטיבית יותר למורים.
• זמן לילדים להתחדש ולעבד את הלמידה שלהם במהלך סוף השבוע שבו הם לא נאלצים לקום מוקדם מדי יום ביומו.
• זמן משפחה איכותי בסופי שבוע להורים, מורים ותלמידים.
• שני ימי חופש רצופים הן למורים והן לתלמידים.
  ברמת המאקרו, שבוע 6 הימים שלנו עולה למדינה מיליארדים (ראה מאמר בנק ישראל). ביום שישי המורים כבר מותשים וילדים רבים ממילא לא הולכים לבית הספר כי גם הם מותשים. זה יום לא פרודוקטיבי לכולם וזה לא בריא מבחינה כלכלית.

המשמעות של שבוע לימודים בן 6 ימים עבור הורים זה שהם נאבקים לעבוד ולמצוא טיפול לילדיהם. קיצור השבוע ל-5 ימים עוזר לפתור בעיה זו שכן הוא מאפשר לנצל בנק של ימים נוספים לאורך כל השנה כדי לסגור את הפער בין חופשות בית ספר לימי עבודה.

הצעת תוכנית שלנו עבור רעננה:
להגדיר את יום שישי כיום חופש (3.40 שעות).
לפזר את 3.40 השעות הללו לאורך שאר השבוע, כלומר יום לימודים ארוך יותר בכ- 45 דקות עד שעה בכל יום (הילדים יצטרכו גם הפסקות ארוכות יותר - גם ככה מתלוננים שאין להם זמן מספיק לאכול).
כל השאר יישאר כפי שהוא ברמה המקומית - ללא שינויים נוספים (כרגע ועד ליישום יוזמות לאומיות נוספות שיביאו את ישראל לשורה אחת עם מדינות אחרות).
המשמעות היא שבתמורת שעה נוספת של לימוד בכל יום (בערך) יהיה למורים יום חופש בשבוע וסוף שבוע רצוף של יומיים.

מה יקרה ביום שישי במקום בית ספר?

יום שישי עצמו הופך ליום "כיף" אופציונלי שבו ההורים יכולים להצטרף לילדם לצאת לחצי יום טיול בטבע או לעשות למידה מחוץ למסגרת הכיתה, וזה חשוב לא פחות.
אפשר לבלות את בוקר שישי כך שחלופה זו היא win-win לכולם ומורידה את הלחץ מההורים, המורים והתלמידים.

בשיחות שלנו עם בתי ספר רבים, מתברר לנו שיש אולי מאות בתי ספר יסודיים בישראל שכבר פועלים על פי שבוע של 5 ימי לימוד. מדובר בבתי ספר רגילים המשרתים את השכונות שלהם.

על אף שיוזמה זו בביקוש כיום על ידי הורים רבים ברעננה, ישנם אלפים רבים של הורים ברחבי הארץ המאמינים שהגיע הזמן שישראל תשנה ותרענן את מערכת החינוך שלה מגנים ועד תיכון.

RANNANA VEUT UNE SEMAINE SCOLAIRE DE 5 JOURS POUR NOS ENFANTS DU PRIMAIRE

De nombreux parents demandent une semaine d'école de 5 jours en Israël depuis des dizaines d’années, mais malgré les nombreuses demandes, cela ne s'est pas encore concrétisé pour les écoles primaires d'Israël.

De nombreux articles ont été consacrés à ce sujet, traitant de la façon dont Israël doit s'aligner sur le reste du monde (article en anglais) afin à la fois de réaliser des économies et d’augmenter la productivité.

La Banque d'Israël a annoncé en 2019 qu'une semaine de 5 jours était logique sur le plan économique (article en anglais)

Récemment, Sharren Heskel a également plaidé pour une semaine d'école de 5 jours (article en hébreu).

Dans un sondage de juin 2020 diffusé par municipalité de Raanana, les questions portant spécifiquement sur une semaine de 5 jours indiquaient que 70 % des parents de Raanana ayant répondu étaient en faveur d'une semaine de 5 jours. De nombreuses écoles fonctionnent de cette façon et c'est au niveau local que cela se décide. En conséquence, la ville a promis d'explorer plus avant cette initiative.

POURQUOI VOULONS-NOUS CELA ?

Cette initiative est très importante pour Raanana, et pour Israël, pour de nombreuses raisons. En voici quelques-unes:

1. Les enfants israéliens sont les seuls au monde à aller à l'école 6 jours par semaine.
2. Les enfants israéliens sont ceux qui vont à l'école le plus de jours parmi tous les pays de l'OCDE et pourtant, nous sommes les moins productifs et avons les résultats scolaires les plus mauvais de l'OCDE.
3. Tous les adultes ont au moins 2 jours de congé par semaine – comment voulons-nous que l'esprit et le corps de nos enfants se développent correctement en ayant si peu de repos et une pression constante ?
4. Alors que le monde parle d'une semaine de 4 jours pour les adultes afin de réduire la pression, Israël continue d’insister avec une semaine de 6 jours pour les enfants en plein développement (article en anglais) qui ont sans doute le plus besoin de temps pour se reposer et digérer leur semaine.
5. Un week-end de 2 jours signifierait :
   des journées certes un peu plus longues pour les enfants mais un meilleur apprentissage et un enseignement plus efficace pour les enseignants ;
   du temps pour que les enfants récupèrent et assimilent leurs leçons pendant le week-end où ils ne sont pas obligés de se lever tôt le matin ;
   plus de temps en famille le week-end pour les parents, les enseignants et les élèves ;
   deux jours de congé consécutifs pour les enseignants et les élèves.
6. Au niveau macro-économique, la semaine des 6 jours coûte des milliards au pays (voir ci-dessus l'article de la Banque d'Israël). Le vendredi, les enseignants sont épuisés et de nombreux enfants ne vont de toute façon pas à l'école parce qu'eux aussi sont épuisés. C'est une journée non productive pour tout le monde et elle n'est pas saine sur le plan économique.
7. La semaine des 6 jours implique pour les parents des difficultés à travailler et à trouver des moyens de garde pour leurs enfants. Raccourcir la semaine à 5 jours permettrait de résoudre ce problème car cela réduirait l'écart entre le nombre de jours de vacances scolaires et le nombre annuel de jours de congés payés  (article en anglais).

DE QUELLE FAÇON CELA A ÉTÉ PROPOSÉ AU NIVEAU LOCAL POUR RAANANA ?

• Suppression des cours le vendredi (3h40)
• Répartition de ces 3h40 sur le reste de la semaine, ce qui signifierait une journée d'école plus longue d'environ 45 minutes à une heure chaque jour (les enfants auraient également besoin de pauses plus longues).
• Tout le reste resterait à l’identique au niveau local - aucun autre changement (pour le moment et jusqu'à ce que d'autres initiatives nationales soient mises en œuvre afin d’aligner Israël sur les autres pays).
• Cela signifierait que pour environ une heure de cours supplémentaire chaque jour, les enseignants auraient un jour de congé dans la semaine ainsi qu'un week-end de deux jours consécutifs.

QU'Y AURA-T-IL LE VENDREDI À LA PLACE DE L'ÉCOLE ?

Le vendredi deviendra une journée « fun » facultative. Les parents pourront choisir que leur enfant parte en tyoul pour la demi-journée ou apprenne en dehors du cadre de la classe, ce qui est tout aussi important.

Ceux qui ne veulent pas ou n'ont pas besoin de cette option pourront passer le vendredi matin comme bon leur semble. Cette alternative est gagnante pour tout le monde et soulagera les parents, les enseignants et les élèves.

Ayant eu le retour de nombreuses écoles, nous savons qu'il y a peut-être des centaines d'écoles primaires dans tout Israël qui ont adopté la semaine des 5 jours. Ce sont toutes des écoles ordinaires qui desservent leurs propres quartiers.

Bien que cette initiative soit actuellement demandée par de nombreux parents à Raanana, il y a des milliers de parents dans tout le pays qui pensent qu'il est maintenant temps pour Israël de changer son système éducatif à tous les niveaux, de la maternelle à l'enseignement supérieur.

Les bénéfices de la semaine des 5 jours sont compris et discutés depuis des années. Cela doit se produire maintenant, pour le bien de nos enfants et pour le bien de notre pays.
