Kathleen O'Hara started this petition to Mayor Bryan Paterson and City Council

As Kingston has declared a Climate Emergency and trees and wildlife are an essential part of a sustainable planet, we the undersigned citizens ask the Mayor and City Council to reconsider the proposed development of the Tannery Site to protect the site, adjacent river and wetlands so that:

Wildlife:  turtles, fish, birds, insects, otters, beavers, and other vulnerable creatures living on the site, are protected.

Mature trees are preserved. A survey indicated over 1800 trees of  6 “ diameter or  more. The developer intends to remove all trees.

No wetland is filled. Wetlands protect land from flood and are the habitat of hundreds of threatened and endangered creatures.

We further request a wilderness setback from the river of 100 meters.

Please consider a redesign, one that is in accordance with the clauses in Sections 6 and 7 of Kingston’s Official Plan, which advocate the protection of animal and plant habitat and protection of land adjacent to our World Heritage Site.
