Petition Closed

Attention Parents, Mayor Bloomberg and the Department of Education in the City of New York are putting your children in Danger by not allowing Experienced Drivers, Matrons and Mechanics to be protected in an upcoming Bid for School Bus work.

This will mean thousands of low paid "Inexperienced Drivers, Matrons and Mechanics" will be hired as cheap replacements.

We, the School Bus Drivers, Matron-Attendant Escorts and Mechanics of the NYC Department of Education School Bus Contractors and proud members of the ATU Local 1181-1061 are writing to you to make you aware of the situation we are faced with. We have reached an impossible position in our labor negotiations with the School Bus Contractors because of this upcoming Bid for work; we have been negotiating since October of 2012.

Being the professionals we are, we thought it as very important to let the parents whose children we care for everyday, know what is going on since there will be a stoppage of service to you and we ask for your support by signing this petition, calling the Mayor Bloomberg's Office by dialing 311 and calling School Chancellor Walcott's Office at 718-935-2000 and demand that they put the Employee Protection Provision back in the Bid.

We are Trained Professionals who take our job very seriously; after all we transport the most precious cargo in NYC, YOUR CHILDREN!

All we ask is that the NYC Department of Education School Bus Contractors protect our jobs and give us wages and benefits so that we can properly provide for our families. Many of us are parents too!

Please support us in our cause, because you don't want "just anybody" driving your children. Safety is most important. You should know that we attend up to 8 hours of Safety Meetings every year in addition to a Physical Performance Test, 19-a Physicals, Special Commercial Drivers Licensing to drive a school bus including the "S" endorsement and Random Drug Testing. Most of all, WE HAVE EXPERIENCE!
Don't put your child on an unsafe bus. We are Trained Professionals!

Thank you in advance for your support and understanding.

The School Bus Drivers, Matrons- Attendant Escorts and Mechanics of the NYC Department of Education's School Bus Contractors and proud ATU Local 1181 Members
