REMOVE HIS BUST FROM CITY PROPERTY AND RENAME THE GARDEN FOR GLADYS TANTAQUIDGEON! An Ivy-league educated Mohegan woman who preserved her tribe's culture, history, and knowledge from during colonial New England.

The City of Milford, Connecticut built a memorial in celebration of the father of the Trans-Atlantic slave trade in 1992 next to our Parson's Government Building to celebrate the myths surrounding a man who started the genocide against the American continents' indigenous peoples.

The bust celebrates the myth that Columbus set foot on North American soil, that he was the first to discover America, and that he set out to prove the earth was round.

All of these things are myths that the author who wrote "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" popularized in his fictionalized biography of Columbus in 1828.

Columbus was a cruel tyrant, whose crew hated him. He raped, murdered, enslaved, and kidnapped indigenous people from the Bahamas. Knowledge of the round earth was common knowledge in Columbus' society. Columbus set out to prove that the earth was much smaller and pear-shaped.

Why does Milford celebrate an idiotic, genocidal maniac?

Newly arrived Italian immigrants used the Columbus myths Washington Irving created to defend themselves from the racial and ethnic hatred other white Americans hurled at them.

Now we know the myths surrounding Columbus are false.

Why are we still celebrating one horrible Italian, when we now know better and Italian-Americans know better and do not have to shelter themselves from systemic racism?

REMOVE THE BUST OF CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS FROM OUR CITY'S PUBLIC LAND! RENAME THE GARDEN IN HONOR OF GLADYS TANTAQUIDGEON! ADD A BUST OF GLADYS FOR HER WORK THAT HARMED NO ONE AND PROTECTED A PEOPLE WHOSE CULTURE BARELY SURVIVED THE ONGOING GENOCIDE AMERICA HAS WAGED AGAINST THEM!
