NYC Schools Individual Borough Emergency Weather Decisions

March 7 - Once again, the mayor has made a poor decision. The roads are clear now but will be treacherous later. It’s time we change how we handle weather related closings.
- delays and half days should be options
- should be a borough by borough decision
(Initial Post)The decision to keep NYC schools open, after the second worst storm in our recorded history, was a premature and poor decision. As with other storms, the streets of Manhattan look pretty good, while other boroughs remain buried in snow. This creates hazardous travel conditions for students, parents, and teachers. Furthermore, having over a million children and adults unnecessarily traveling to and from school makes plowing and snow removal even more difficult. Every borough should be decided on an individual basis! Children, parents, and teachers should not have to choose between their attendance records and safety.
