SUSPEND ALTERNATE SIDE PARKING FOR DURATION OF COVID-19 (Coronavirus)
NYC has declared a state of emergency, banned gatherings and urged many businesses to close/limit themselves alongside many additional efforts, all to help prevent the further spread of what is commonly referred to as the Coronavirus.
Though we fully acknowledge that this is a trying time for the NYC infrastructure and the people behind it, we as New York City residents are still subject to fines (which were recently increased by over almost 50%) for alternate side parking violations. For many this means a vehicle that was otherwise legally parked still needs to be moved despite urges from NY officials to stay indoors, yet they have yet to suspend alternate side parking, with 311 and the official Twitter account for AltSide Parking stating it is in effect as of the time this was written.
This is a clear contradiction in advice and instructions from NYC, and we as citizens of this city urge Mayor DeBlasio to ATLEAST suspend enforcement of alternate side parking for the duration of this pandemic. While some are unable to work or go to school, or some are part of the network of people keeping society afloat, we will continue to incur fines from the city and put ourselves through financial strain and risks to health.
