Rename the location of the Saudi Mission to the UN Jamal Khashoggi Plaza
The first year anniversary of the brutal assassination of respected world renowned journalist Jamal Khashoggi has just passed, without the government of Saudi Arabia, or Prince Mohammad bin Salman Al Saud being held responsible by any world powers. The president of the United States has brushed this off time and time again and his son in law has remained in the pocket of this brutal regime. MBS has described Kushner in this manner.
This is simply wrong. Not only does it fly in the face of our First Amendment, our highest elected officials continue to pander to this dangerous and brutal government who defiles the very concept of human rights, while sitting on the UN Human Rights Commission.
It would be fitting for our diverse city to honor this man by co-naming the street in front of the Permanent Mission of Saudi Arabia to the UN, and directly across from the UN, the very body that seeks justice for human rights violations, Jamal Khashoggi Plaza.
We, the below signers of this petition seek the street in front of 809 First Avenue to be co-named Jamal Khashoggi Plaza, in recognition of his dedication as a journalist in promoting human rights in his home country and abroad, and to always remember it was members of the Saudi government who brutally murdered him, then proceeded to cover it up, without being condemned by most of the world at large.
