A statue of a rapist, murder, thief, explorer and leader should not be displayed without an explanation of the cruelty and torture he perpetrated on innocent peoples. There is so much to his story and almost known of it is taught in our culture. Remove this statue- put it in a museum along with many other vicious and cruel "heroes". Then tell the WHOLE story about who they were and who we are as people- maybe then we can begin to heal from our violent origins.

As an Italian-American the glorification of the greedy, bloodthirsty, genocidal maniac that is Christopher Columbus is a disgusting stain on my heritage.

ITS A FACT THAT COLUMBUS WAS A COLONIST FOR SPAIN AND ANYONE THAT STOOD IN HIS WAY HE WOULD MURDER THEM: CARIBBEAN INDIANS , MEXICAN INDIANS. IN SHORT, COLUMBUS OPEN THE DOOR TO GENOCIDE, HORRIFIC TORTURES AND MURDERS!!!

The time is long past due to stop honoring those who enslaved/murdered indigenous and African people for profit, stole their land and heritages and built empires on their bodies. They are not heroic; they were genocidal criminals whose legacy still underpins our society. ENOUGH!

This statue does not represent the community. Columbus is responsible for the colonization & enslavement in Latin America. The Latinx community does not need a a reminder of the oppression.

Furthermore the statue is located at a park which is now closed and guarded by the NYPD just to protect a statue.

This is not fair to the children of the Belmont community. We will not allow a statue of a murder be valued over the Latinx community in that area.
