Please keep the Newyorican Poets Cafe open! I have been a artist for 9 years now and the Newyorican Poets Cafe has been a safe haven for me ever since. This was where I had my first performance. The Neyorican Poets Cafe is a home for upcoming artist and poets, such as myself. It is a  place for talent, and for me it was a place to get my feet wet in the musical realm. They’ve hosted events with schools to get students to dive into their life and work on a craft rather then getting lost in the streets. Not many places have this in place for our youth and it would be heartbreaking to see it go. As an adult you can still enjoy the benefits of the Neyorican Poets Cafe because they always have live performances, open mics and even poetry slams. It’s a great place to just grab a drink and hang out after work. I’ve seen some amazing live bands perform their. There’s really nothing like it in the area. This is the heart of the Lower East Side.  I believe we need this for our New Yorkers rather then condominiums that many New Yorkers can’t even afford. Closing the Newyorican Poets Cafe will cause distress in the Lower East side as it snatches a refuge from many. We need to strive to keep our people busy, not take away what they already have.
