I am signing as someone who has spent years investing my spare time in composting projects. I think the compost project was one of the smartest things the city has done. Going backwards is a huge error in judgement.

A composting site is a far more environmentally useful project than more car parking spaces. Diverting food waste from landfill, contributing to the city’s parks and green spaces through composting, and making young and old more aware of what they can do for the environmental health of the planet are all big advantages of the compost initiative.

It's important to have as many compost collections available as possible, to put that waste to a productive purpose, rather than add it to the already voluminous inorganic waste stream.

If food waste were a country it would be the 3rd worst offender in the world! NYC is dense and most people don't have the luxury of composting themselves. It's so important.
