Why this petition matters
Hey guys I am an 16 year old junior in high school in NYC. I am doing really well in school currently rolling with an 90 average. But this is more than me today. I am a kid with an pre-existing condition and I’m being force to choose between my personal well-being and my grades. Now before you say “Oh just stay home”, I would like reiterate this is more than me. Going to school aggravates community spread, leadings to not only kids being potentially effected but also Grandparents, parents, and other adults with conditions. And let’s say another argument is kids won’t be affected so schools should be open. All these colleges are doing the right thing and preventing the spread of the virus. This is a people problem, this virus can potentially harm everybody no matter whether you are young or old, despite you having a condition or no. Though I will admit the older and people with a condition have a higher complication and contraction percentage. If this continues we will become the mistake, Italy has become now. Don’t take it from me tho, take it from scientists who do this on the daily. https://www.forbes.com/sites/victoriaforster/2020/03/12/scientists-in-new-york-city-urge-closure-of-schools-to-slow-down-spread-of-coronavirus/ Don’t even get me started on the threat this can be for teachers who are just doing their jobs. And as for homeless children I do believe there needs to be a delivery system for them like in Seattle. Thank you guys so much and you stay safe out there. To bring it back, the main focus of this petition is for me to convince you guys, students and teachers, that the only way our mayor will take action is to decrease our attendance percentage. Let’s do this!
