Why this petition matters

Started by Sarah Cortez

As of March 6, Mercy College has announced they are taking the coronavirus seriously. Yet, nothing is being done while many other colleges in New York have already suspended classes such as Fordham, Iona, and Columbia universit. Mercy's commuters from Westchester, the Bronx, and NYC are coming back and forth everyday to classes, taking buses and trains. This puts them and the whole Mercy community at risk. At the same time, little to nothing has been done to disinfect public areas on campus, meanwhile, other schools have done so as a precaution even without having any cases confirmed.

It is irresponsible for Mercy to continue with classes. Governor Cuomo has already declared a state of emergency, and for a tight community as that in our campus, with commuters from all over Westchester, healthy mercy students are at unnecesary risk of COVID-19.

It is not safe to be here any longer, it is not safe to live in a close community such as our dorms and it is not safe to go to class. Especially since Mercy isn't doing anything when it comes to disinfecting the campus.
