Why this petition matters

Started by Kira-Imani Andrews

As a senior in High School, Mental Health can take a huge toll on our academic excellence, the way we socialize, and how we live our day to day lives. From personal experience, taking unexcused absences in school while telling teachers/parental figures about the reason why (wether if we need to clear our minds by getting away from the school setting for a bit, or maybe wanting to focus on ourselves, etc.) gets turned against our backs and unfortunately it's not being taken seriously. In Addition, due to teachers or school supervisors not taking as much action as needed, I've decided to take it upon myself to make a petition ; in order to possibly implement a law making sure that students can get several days in which their attendance is unexcused in order to improve their mental state of mind. However, due to kids/most teens coming from low income families, most dont have access of seeing professional therapists outside of school. In some cases, even though Guidance Consolers may not help all students at all times, maybe we should probably consider having professional therapists in schools once a month to help kids/teens that are severely struggling at schools, with little to no cost.
