A small committee of area businesses and residents has been organized to help the City of Bingen become a “Quiet Zone” with the Federal Railroad Administration.  What this means is that the trains that drive through Bingen will no longer be required to blow their train whistles because new railroad crossing safety measures will be put in place, eliminating the need for the safety whistle.

Before this “Quiet Zone” approval is possible, the City of Bingen must submit an application, which can include letters of support from citizens and business owners alike.  After the application is submitted with letters of support, the Federal Railroad Administration will do an analysis of our railroad crossings and determine what types of railroad crossing safety measures must be put in place to become a “Quiet Zone.” This determination will be completed within sixty (60) days of application.

If you are interested in adding your name to our list of supporters in the City of Bingen becoming a “Quiet Zone” with the Federal Railroad Administration, you have four different ways to show your support:

1)     Sign your name to this letter electronically.

2)     Write and submit your own letter of support, and return  to City Hall, Attn: “Quiet Zone Committee.”

3)     Go to Bingen City Hall and sign a letter of support they have available to citizens.

4)     Sign and submit the letter of support found in your most recent water bill, and return to City Hall, Attn: “Quiet Zone Committee.”
