Many Syracuse neighborhoods lack grocery stores and healthy food alternatives but have an abundance of fast food restaurants and corner stores that up-charge for fresh produce. For people with accessibility and mobility issues, obtaining groceries is extremely difficult. The global pandemic also poses a great risk to people who are immunocompromised- shopping in public with larger crowds is dangerous. Grocery store delivery services are considered an alternative to shopping in person, but this is unaffordable for many. Not only do these mobile services eliminate the deals you find in stores (i.e. Buy One Get One, coupons, etc.), but they do not accept SNAP benefits as a form of payment. This is unjust. In order to close the gap of food accessibility, and allow everyone access to affordable, healthy food options, state representatives must expand the Pilot Program to allow SNAP benefits be used on grocery delivery services (I.e. Instacart, Amazon Fresh, Wegmans Delivery, Walmart Delivery, Shipt, FreshDirect, etc.)
