Restore Recycling in the city of Pensacola

We are the ECO Club from the Pensacola Private School of Liberal Arts. We formed this year, to help clean up plastic debris from our streets, sewers, creeks, rivers, bays and the Gulf. We have spent the year picking up trash and creating a campaign to raise awareness about the dangers this debris poses to our aquatic wildlife, seabirds, food chain, our beaches and ourselves.
This entire time, we have been recycling our finds, and educating others about the importance of recycling.
We recently discovered, that since February, recycling collected within city limits by the city of Pensacola is no longer being recycled. Instead, it is sent straight to the landfill. No public mention of this has been made. Recycling has been picked up as usual, and paid for, by the residents of the city of Pensacola.
We are apalled and saddened by this. We call upon the Mayor and the City Council to immediately rectify this problem. Escambia County has built a new recycling center. We can use this while we find a more appropriate solution.
While reducing plastics is our goal, properly recycling and disposing of the tremendous amount of plastic debris we as a society continue to create is key to keeping our environment cleaner and safer for everyone.
Thank you for your help.
