Tēnā koutou,
On the 26th August Wellington City Councillor Sean Rush ( Motukairangai / Eastern ward representative ) attended a WCC meeting and turned his back on a group of fellow councillors performing waiata in support of the establishment of iwi seats on the Wellington City Council.

This behaviour is rude, problematic, inappropriate and disrespectful and is not indicative of how local residents wish to be represented in their local government, nor is it the manner in which an elected councillor should behave when presented with issues that directly affect local iwi.

The Wellington City Council code of conduct is published on their website and states:

• Elected members should remember the respect and dignity of their office in their dealings with each other, management and the public.

• Members should treat people with respect, regardless of their race, age,
religion, gender, sexual orientation, or disability, and should not unlawfully
discriminate against any person or group of persons.

Cr Sean Rush's actions are a direct breach of this code of conduct, and are unacceptable to the constituents that he serves.

This petition calls for Councillor Rush to attend diversity and sensitivity training surrounding Te Tiriti, the manner in which local govt representatives must work to uphold the tenets of Te Tiriti and ways to further support and uplift mana whenua, as well as issue a public apology.

If the above actions are not undertaken in an appropriate and timely manner, or if Cr Rush is unable to fulfil his obligations to local voters, we will be calling for his resignation.
