Push to ban styrofoam in the city of Columbus, Ohio
This petition had 85 supporters
Styrofoam is composed of both Benzene and Styrene which are known carcinogens and are also linked to Parkinson's and leukemia. Exposure to these substances can cause a number of mutations within the nervous system. It is also linked to leukemia and lymphoma cancer. Food in Styrofoam containers can be contaminated by chemicals that leach into the food, affecting human health and the reproductive systems. Environmental concerns are also high as Styrofoam production which causes the release of many greenhouse gases into the air and it can take up to 500 years to decompose. The effects of styrofoam are widespread and effect everyone. I'm asking both Mayor Andrew Ginther and head of the Ohio Restaurant Association John Barker, to please review the harmful effects of styrofoam on both the environment and human health and to please be open minded to help change current policy on this susbstance to ban its use. Please sign this petition to show your support in ending the use of styrofoam in our city!
