We believe in the economic and health and safety benefits of a Federally regulated Cannabis industry. The District of Fort St. James proposed bylaw prohibiting the ", commercial production or distribution of cannabis." (Bylaw 738,2001, subsection 3.20) will have a negative impact on our community in terms of economic growth and social stability. Every study of the social and economic impact of legalizing cannabis, where this has taken place, has shown positive outcomes. The only people to benefit from prohibition are those engaged in the illegal market. The time is now to place this substance within a legal framework which will allow for regulated and responsible, safe use and distribution of cannabis. The District's attempt to block the sale of cannabis is not supported by science, nor any evidence-based research.
