Andrea Bird started this petition to Mayor and City Councillors

The City of Belleville is considering an amendment to rezone property located on the north side of Cloverleaf Drive from low Density Residential Type 1 to a High Density  Residential Zone (R4) to make provisions to facilitate a thirty-one unit townhouse condominium development.

This rezoning will allow for a large condominium building to be built on the brink of Boyd Park in the Deerfield Subdivision off of Maitland Drive in Thurlow.  The building will allow access to the park and take away from the natural surrounding that many neighbours and citizens enjoy on a daily basis. The natural wooded park is also home to many wildlife in the area. With the clearing of the proposed land, many animals have been displaced and are visiting the yards of surrounding homes.

The proposed condominium will house 31 units which is a higher density population.  Currently all of Cloverleaf Drive is home to a total of approximately 30 single dwellings. The tabled change to the zoning and development is not a natural fit for the proposed land and community. This development will result in increased traffic, a larger population using the park and loss of green space.  Signing this petition will show support to keep the land as a low density residential type, that will NOT permit condominiums townhomes to be built on the land.

I'm sure politicians will always want more housing because it is a great way to stimulate the economy.  Low density housing is the best option for our health. As humans we need to see something green! A low density neighbourhood promises to be quiet and private, and have very little traffic and the perfect place for our residents.

Please take a moment to sign the petition.
