Samantha Malik started this petition to Mayor Al Suarez and

I am writing to you today in an effort to understand better the reasoning behind not allowing at least some measures of returning back to normal as it has been a year since 2 weeks to slow the spread.  I also understand it might not be up to you directly but up to the local public health officials that I will be reaching out to as well.

If we continue on this path where us as adults now have the choice to either wear the mask or not then having our children still isolating from other children growing up to believe this is normal and to be afraid of others is unhealthy and depressing not just to them but to many other families as well.   Still having no choice is concerning.

I believe since we were given the choice of either in person learning and virtual we should now have the option to going back to normal even if in steps and measures.

I also believe to be fair and have everyone happy there should be more options given of what the next steps should be.  For example there could be voting among all teachers and parents by e-mail or to have meetings.  To have the schools split up for the masked and unmasked.  There has to be more available options.

From what I understand.  Schools in Texas are subject to oversight by Public Health Departments.  If an uptick in cases occurs and kids aren't wearing masks, they would blame it on masks and shut down the schools.

We could say the same thing for the flu or anything else.  If this is the case then kids will never be mask less again.  Viruses will never go away 100% and we have to learn to live with the fact that it's normal to get sick, recover and move on.  We all know the importance that we can still socially distance and wash our hands.  Even then would you still require every teacher and child vaccinated out of fear but they could still get sick and still wear a mask?  When will they stop the masks exactly where everyone can agree?  There has to be a beginning to the end of this.  Even if we do steps or measures.  Again we need options and choices so we all can eventually agree.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinions and we are allowed to have choices.  Not just from one group of people that say one thing as not everyone thinks the same way.  We should be given different options.

The School System and how it now is growing to a year since Covid has shown.  My daughter and many others have been out of physical school since spring break of last year.  I will not have her go into a school where she is isolated from the other students and made to believe we are now living in a “new normal.”  To teach our children to be afraid of something that obviously we can see now is not killing anyone healthy.  We simply can not live like this forever and if this continues sadly that’s how society will think it has to be.  The so called mask is a personal petri dish that is not meant to be worn all day long and to be punished if those take it off to breathe fresh air.  I know if I wore something on my face all day then expected to think and take a test as normal this would distract me and put me into depression.  Which I have already seen and heard children and teenagers suffering from even more since Covid started.  Sitting in front of a computer screen all day long is not as effective as there’s once teacher to so many students with technical difficulties.  How are they even getting an education this way?  Or should we all just get a free pass and graduate each year because of this virus without really learning much of anything?  And for how long?  In America we all should be able to have choices to be free to wear or not wear a mask if we are unsure, afraid or not afraid.  We should be able to choose and have choices.  If there are teachers ready to not wear a mask anymore and want to be face to face with children we at the same time should be able to choose if our children can go in a normal class room but have yet to be given the option to.  I again ask this.  How long?

I hope that my letter to you will be taken in high consideration.
