Why this petition matters

Started by Ilse Bonilla

Dear Mayor Aja Brown,

We the signatories of this petition demand that Waste Management do more than just one bulky pickup per year, per unit to deplete the amount of Illegal Dumping that is happening around Compton. Your website states that residential customers receive a total of four (4) bulky pickup per year for free, which is not happening.

Illegal Dumping is happening in all areas of Los Angeles and other cities within the County. Specially during these difficult times and the stay-at-home orders, residents are tossing out a record amount of trash. Dumping usually happens near Freeway entrances and exits. Waste Management only does one bulky pickup per year, per unit, not 4 as the website states. This is not enough to keep our city clean. With Waste Management doing more pickups for bigger materials will decrease the majority of the illegal dumping happening also under the bridges. This would contribute to our community by having cleaner streets and safer environments. As the Mayor of Compton, we would like you to take action by speaking to Waste Management and getting them to do more than just one pickup.

Illegal Dumping is a huge issue because it pollutes our environment and it diminishes the enjoyment of our beautiful city. The citizens of Compton deserve a clean environment. Illegal Dumping shows that we don’t care about our environment that we live in, not cleaning up after ourselves will just lead to more dumping which means a more polluted environment. Continuing illegal dumping will just lead to worse causes like hurting our wildlife and harming us as a whole. Our streets are not dumpsters. Every single Compton resident should be able to take pride in how the City looks, and each one of us has a responsibility to keep our city clean and safe.

In conclusion, as our Mayor we believe that it is your responsibility to help us show that we care about our environment and our community.
