Mayor Adams, Please keep Washington Square Park Safe

Mayor Adams, Please keep Washington Square Park Safe

Congratulations Mayor Eric Adams,
New York University Local Moms and Dads on Call, NYU Parents Support Group, and NYU All Things Tisch wish to congratulate you on becoming the 110th Mayor of New York City.
Your commitment to serving the New York City Community and keeping New Yorkers safe is appreciated. Our three NYU Parents Facebook groups provides support to parents of NYU students. We have a combined membership of over 6,000 members.
NYU students' first introduction to New York City and NYU is the famous Arch at Washington Square Park pictured in all of NYU's correspondence. Upon arrival at NYU, a photo taken beneath the arch and inside the park is a highlight and accepted students’ rite of passage. With warmer months ahead, we are concerned about the safety of our students in Washington Square Park.
In light of the increased crime in Washington Square Park, safety is the top concern parents share in our Facebook groups. New York University is an open campus, but for our students, the Arch is the place to be. It is their de facto quad. New York University students gather to socialize with one another, buy meals and dine al fresco, sell their hand-crafted items, and fine art, dance, perform, and often this is their first performance venue.
For such a time as this, we need your support in ensuring that Washington Square Park will be safer for our kids and the NYU community. In addition to additional police officers on patrol, we would like to see mental health and medical support for all the homeless people who enjoy this beautiful park.
Mayor Adams, as parents, including those of us who are your constituents, we trust that your office will prioritize the safety of our students at NYU and take steps to resolve the problems in the park. If we can be of any assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Sincerely,
- NYU Local Moms and Dads on Call
- NYU Parents Support Group
- NY All Things Tisch
