South Fontana Concerned Citizens Coalition SFCCC started this petition to Mayor Acquanetta Warren and Fontana City Council

We the residents of Fontana, would like to voice our displeasure and disagreement with the recent proliferation of industrial rezoning and development of “big box” buildings, i.e., warehousing and manufacturing. Having made repeated attempts at voicing our concerns to our city leadership, the little available land we have available for commercial development continues to be rezoned as industrial and developed as such. We cite the following concerns: environmental impact and the violation of our right to breath clean air, safety of our ourselves and our families being compromised along with road degradation by increased truck traffic, decreased desire of commercial and retail investors (such as food and shopping) to develop desired amenities in our community, stagnated and in some cases decreased property values in areas where there is heavy industrial concentration. There are many more concerns in addition to the former, which have been repeatedly voiced to our Mayor and City Council. That being said, in the interest of the community and ensuring our desires are properly represented and explicitly conveyed, the South Fontana Concerned Citizens Coalition (SFCCC) has authored this petition to serve a two-fold objective; 1) state our opposition to the rezoning of the following land from commercial to light industrial, and 2) state our desire for the below land, that has already been rezoned light industrial, to be developed as “mixed use” with commercial and retail elements.

  1. Opposition to rezoning from commercial to light industrial of the following: area of southeast intersection of Slover Ave and Citrus Ave, APN 025501101, APN 025501102, APN 025501103. It is HIGHLY concerning that the city would even consider this as it would allow industrial development literally next door to a school filled with our children. This is particularly appalling in that it would expose approximately 2000 children to unclean air and put them, along with anyone who drives that area, at risk of accident with increased truck traffic. We call on the Mayor and City Council to hold themselves to higher standards and consider our children. We are stewards of our community and owe it to our children to leave them with a community where they can be safe and thrive. No amount of money from yet another warehouse or manufacturer is worth their lives.
  2. Due to the change in needs from the community, we are formally requesting the areas of the Northwest and Northeast intersections of Slover Ave and Cypress Ave, APN 025116425 and APN 025118136 be developed as a mixed use area to allow much needed retail and commercial space. We propose a compromise from the developer to build responsibly in our city. We request a “mixed use” development in which the needs of both the developer and the community can be met. We ask that the developer consider building store front elements in the front of the property while building their warehousing in the back of the property. This will allow both developer and the community to coexist in that we will still have building space to attract commercial and retail tenants to bring the amenities the community is looking for.

Let it be known that the residents here are expressing their voices. We want to be heard and we would like to make improvements to our city that will have a lasting enhancement to the quality of life of the residents in the southern part of Fontana.
