This past February I, Shaylla Moore, have moved to mayflower. Mayflower was a very welcoming school when I first got here, however, I and other students feel the dress code is a bit excessive and strict. I have worn a black tank top with a jacket to cover my shoulders a couple times because that’s a known rule in every school, while the tank top I was wearing was short, I was also wearing high waisted sweats or jeans to the point of just a sliver of my belly button was showing, I was dress coded and threatened iss!
     I sit in one class for four hours a day and walk back and forth to and from the bathrooms, so I figured I could dress comfy and focus on my classes with no problems. However, Mrs Tempelton has dress coded me no matter what outfit I have worn to school and has even made her own list of dress codes to hang on the outside of her classroom and thinks it’s funny when students take a picture of it.
     Many other females in this school have been treated the same way, the smallest detail on our outfit can get us written up and even sent home, what happened to you wanting us to stay in class? Aren’t you defeating the purpose when you send us home for our clothes and you’re the only one bothered by them?? The way someone dresses isn’t a distraction until you make it an issue!!! 
     I feel I shouldn’t have to come to school to be sexualized and criticized by another teacher, it makes me uncomfortable and wonder why she even looks at me just to dress code me, please sign this petition and let girls be able to focus on school instead of being scared their outfit is too revealing for teachers, the only ones that are distracted by our body’s.
