Mauldin High School’s Dress Code
Mauldin High School’s Dress Code
The Maudlin High School dress code, along with many other schools within the Greenville County District, has been created targeting specific groups of students. A schools dress code is usually in place to make a more conductive learning environment, it frequently does the opposite. The Mauldin High dress code has taken the focus off of learning and onto women's bodies. Girls are unfairly singled out by the standards presented by the dress code. The unfair treatment created by this code is due for a change. Being sent home because of a dress code violation is giving any student a disadvantage in their education and their futures. According to the student hand book the code is in place to “provide a world-class instructional program and learning opportunity for every student” This has not been proven true. The close attention to what underage girls is wearing by anyone one is considerably concerning. Administration has continued to make policy after policy that affects the young female students. The school’s efforts for “Mav’s Matter”seems irrelevant with the policies currently in place. Dress codes promote rape culture, inequality, and the sexualization of young girls bodies. A change needs to happen. As other schools are adjusting their rules, codes, and policies, Mauldin High School continues to set itself even farther behind.
