I visit Maui every year for the month of November. My primary interest is kiting at Kanaha. I stay in Kihei and enjoy activities all over the island. My family spends a fair amount of money every year on the island (lodging, groceries, restaurants, food trucks, local stores, and sight-seeing). If these parking spots at Kanaha beach access are closed - I will stop my annual trip to Maui.
Currently - the parking lots at Kanaha are overflowing beyond capacity. If any of the alternate spots are taken away – the situation will become even more chaotic.
I love all things about Maui and the Kanaha kite-boarding. Except for the lack of parking.
Please reconsider the removal of these access points without providing an alternative.
I got started here and took lessons on this beach originally and still come back to ride periodically. i have to admit it would be less attractive if free parking wasn't an option.
I come at least once a winter to kite. Without parking lots I’d expect a lot more car break-ins and there are many other hot spots I could visit such as the Caribbean and Mexico. My November visit was especially crowded now that there are so many no-go zones
I love this park and beach and the people here. It would be nice to preserve the existing parking especially for beach goers and kiteboarders/windsurfers who have to carry all our stuff to the beach.
Kiteboarding is an iconic Maui activity, and while relatively few of the many visitors kite, many are attracted by the sport and the possibility of trying it. Making it inconvenient and hard to find parking will impact not only kiters, but Maui tourism in general
I'm a frequent tourist to Maui for watersports. Maui is one of the few places where you can kite or windsurf w/o having to worry about injuring a person on the beach. No one wants to carry gear over a distance. Tourists drive the economy on Maui.
