Maui Bike Tours started this petition to Maui County Council

We need your help!  Many of you are familiar with the very popular Haleakala Downhill Bike Tours on Maui.  For 40 years, this activity has been a staple of the Upcountry Maui scene and one of the most sought out attractions on Maui.  These tours have not only provided countless jobs for local residents but have always supported local charities and organizations by donating hours of service and regularly providing financial support. At the same time, these tours have provided a fun, educational, and environmentally friendly activity for both visitors and locals.

Now, the bike industry and the livelihoods of employees are under attack.  A new proposed ordinance by the chairman of the Government Relations, Ethics and Transparency Committee Mike Molina, GREAT- 44, seeks to restrict bike tours to the point that it would make it impossible to operate efficiently and appropriately, thus shutting down the entire industry.

This would result in hundreds of jobs lost for local residents and families.  The financial revenue lost to the county and state would be in the 10s of millions of dollars.  The residual effect of such an ordinance would have a negative effect on local businesses that are frequently visited by these visitors as well as the many businesses that bike companies work with such as local restaurants, retailers, DMCs, hotels, concierges, and travel professionals.

This proposed ordinance would even prohibit bike shops on Maui from renting bikes to the general public.  This is a very anti small business bill that must be stopped.

Please help support small businesses on Maui and let the Maui County Councilmembers know that passing proposed ordinance, GREAT - 44, is not in the best interest of local residents on Maui.
