Stop $80 million of tax payers money from being wasted on a Wailuku Civic Complex

Stop $80 million of tax payers money from being wasted on a Wailuku Civic Complex

Problem
With all of the issues that our County is facing and lacking the funds to fix, Council member Riki Hokama is trying to push through $80 million dollars to build a Wailuku Civic Complex in the heart of Wailuku! This monstrosity will completely change the look and feel of our beloved Wailuku Downtown area and hurt the existing local businesses so much that they may have to close down or relocate!
You may remember that Arakawa initially asked for $80 million for this project and the Council already said NO, and knocked it down to $40 million. Now, Riki Hokama is asking (again) for the additional $40 million, and is trying to rush it through before the new Council takes office in January.
If we have $40 million to spend on this project, shouldn't we use it on housing or other necessary infrastructure?
Solution
Stop the additional $40 million. Sign and share this petition. Testify in person or by email to the Maui County Council.
The Council meeting is scheduled for Dec. 11th at 9 am at the County Building (200 S. High St. 8th floor, Wailuku, Hi 96793) or you can submit testimony to county.clerk@mauicounty.us
