Get the Maui County Manager Initiative on the Ballot this November

Do you want a more efficient, effective, and transparent form of governance for Maui County?
If so, we need your help! A group of concerned citizens have been actively working to explore the possibilities of a County Manager/Mayor form of governance for Maui County. A Special Committee to study this issue was created by the County Council and subsequently recommended the County Manager/Mayor form of governance as Maui's best option.
Now we need to get this initiative on the ballot so the voters can decide this November. If the County Council does not hear from you, then there is a chance they could delay the process and allow it to miss the opportunity to make it onto the ballot this year.
We need to let them know we are watching, and we want the right to vote on our future!
Please visit, www.forthegoodofmaui.org for in depth studies, press, and insight into the implications of moving to a County Manager/Mayor form of governance.
The specific language (which has been adopted by the Special Committee) we would like to see on the ballot is:
“Shall the Charter be amended to establish a revised structure of governance for the County of Maui wherein: A Managing Director appointed by the County Council shall be responsible for the County's daily operations, the appointment and removal of department heads, and the implementation of County policy; and an elected Mayor shall be responsible for representing the County in intergovernmental affairs, with the authority to approve or veto bills, and nominate board and commission members?”
The People’s right to vote is a core democratic principle. We want to exercise it. By signing this petition you are letting the Maui County Council know that you want to see the County Manager initiative on the ballot this November.
