Today, I was blessed to leave my local hospital with my newborn son who had just come off the NICU ward for lung complications. In the 10 meters from entrance to car pickup, I had to push past three people smoking. All were healthy as far as I could tell and had no inability or restrictions to walk. They CHOSE to be there and fill my newborn son’s lungs with putrid, cancer ridden smoke.

  • Schools are filled with children who are usually healthy and highly influenced by adults.
  • Hospitals are filled with sick, old and very young people including NEWBORNS.

Second hand inhalation of smoke directly outside the doors of such vital establishments to our society is KILLING our most vunerable.

Let's make it ILLEGAL (on the spot fine) for anyone SMOKING within 50m of the main entrance to a school or hospital - it's a zero cost option for the government and is a votes winner. Put up the signs and empower the institutions to issue fines and call the police. Security are already onsite in hospitals. Headteachers can monitor schools.

Our children are the future of our community and society as a whole, with healthcare an increasingly heavy burden for the budget. This will have a direct impact on reducing smoking rates and 2nd hand related illnesses and death, especially as sick people are more vunerable to smoke inhalation.

The NHS is an incredible institution and sets the UK apart on the global stage but smoke related illnesses are increasing and the pressure has never been higher on our wonderful doctors and nurses

Help me relieve that pressure and BAN SMOKING in the vicinity of all SCHOOL AND HOSPITAL ENTRANCES.

All fines go directly to the local NHS Trust running the hospital or school funding for SEN.
