Right now, we are playing many assorted pieces in the NWR Symphonic Band: Dichter und Bauer - Overture, The Black Horse Troop, and Harkstow Grange. These are good, but the students, nay, artists of the NWR Symphonic Band want better.

Because of this, we petition to play Gustav Holst's "Jupiter" from "The Planets" suite. Heralded as one of the most melodic pieces in history, it would be a good experience for the players and the listeners. As it is more complex and has actual parts for instruments that generally have flat bass lines, instruments who are generally bored in rehearsal may find themselves being more engaged or perhaps having fun playing interesting music. For the listener, they'd be hearing a piece that they actually know and would be able to better enjoy the performance.

From a perspective of the directors, there is no reason to not do this. Since there is no evaluation, even if we perform poorly, it won't affect the legacy of the band. It also, again, is a more interesting piece for the directors to conduct.

There is much to gain if the NWR Symphonic Band decides to play Holst's "Jupiter," and this is true from many angles. As shown, it would be beneficial to the players, listeners, and directors. If we reach 30 signatures (easily half of the symphonic band), we should play this great piece, regardless of the struggle to be had over it.

Note: Change.org says the goal is 100 signatures, but that is the default and I cannot change that.
